Charcoal - an artist's medium loved by many

Charcoal has been used as a dry medium by artists for many centuries. Including big names such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Pablo Picasso. It is available in the form of both powder, carbon pencil, and charcoal, and it's perfect for art where the artist wants to work with large, fast, and sweeping movements. But it is also a medium that lends itself very well to more elaborate works, where the different characters of the charcoal come out depending on how the artist varies pressure and angles. With the carbon, you can bring out the deepest blacks, to light grays, and its matte finish is very characteristic.

One thing that is important to remember, if you are investing in charcoal drawings, is to protect your artwork. Since charcoal is sensitive to touch, there is a risk of it being smeared, unless it has been fixed with a fixative. We also recommend that you always glass your carbon drawing.

Charcoal drawings are available in all imaginable formats. From small and minimalist sketches, to large landscape drawings and kroki works. Why not buy several small works in charcoal and create a whole painting wall? Or let a single, large charcoal drawing take center stage?
