Hans Burghouts

About me

My name is Hans Burghouts, born in Edam on the 26th of may 1962. As a child I could draw very well. I painted my kindergarden schoolmates and just made some primitive basic scratchy drawings. I already made recognizable pictures in perspective.

I did not take any art-classes, however my father could make nice drawings too. So the apple didn’t fall very far from the tree.
After a very happy time, working in tourism (as a clogmaker), I unfortunately was struck by two cerebral infarctions. For now I am completely out of active duties. I no longer take life as serious as I used to, so now I am starting in a brandnew way of painting. I call it : HiHi Art by Hansy. Making fun of normal situations of sceneries, so they put a smile on the observers faces.

The Netherlands

Acrylics on canvas, in a realistic impressionistic style. Not only the objects up front are important, the things at the backround matter too. So the longer you watch a painting of mine, the more details will appear.

I deliberately do not try to copy the ”old masters”, I just paint the things that pop up into my mind and than start putting it on a canvas. While painting it sometimes looks like Rembrandt or Dali, but I prefer Jheronimus Bosch, or Jan Steen. Harmoniously and messy at the same time.
