For many years Suse has been working with oil on canvas, but for the last few years, she has been making up-cycling art as a new project. She experiments with drawings and paint on old recycling materials. And she uses the material as a part of her expression. The materials are old nautical charts, note paper, maps, canvas or paper.
The interaction between the material and her art tells a story, and the original material extends the lines of her figures and the story of the artwork.
Suse says: “It´s like receiving a gift when I am drawing on the old maps, it’s like the animals are taking shape from the lines.”
Suse Hartung uses animals as her main scene, painted with a sharp and funny stroke, sometimes in surreal scenes, and often as a comment to climate changes and man-made environmental problems.
When looking at her works portraying these intense animals, we might sense a more rough expression underneath.
She uses markers, paint brushes, oil paint or acrylic paint.
Suse Hartung´s art has been represented at Gallery Oxholm Talent Exhibition, Gallery Claus.C. in Copenhagen, Zoo, and at Frederiksberg’s Censored Autumn Exhibition.
